Library
The library will be celebrating Disability Book Week this week. This state-wide event is a way to raise disability awareness and increase inclusion in literature by encouraging individuals and organizations to read disability inclusive books. We will have a display featuring books showcasing characters or people with disabilities. Our vitals and life skills classes have shared their wonderful artwork with us. Stop by the library to see their awesome artwork and check out a book to read inclusively!
Science Olympiad
On Friday, April 22 and Saturday April 23, Science Olympiad competed at the State Competition Rice Invitational and earned 11th Overall. Notable placements were:

Everyone has been working so hard and we are confident that we will continue to bring the bling for Mrs. Campbell next year. Girl's Golf
The Cy Woods Girls Golf team did amazing, in a very competitive field at district this week! We had one Wildcat advancing to regionals and make first team all district!! We also had 2 Wildcats named to the Texas girls coaches association and Texas high school coaches association Academic All-State Team!
Vet Med
Vet med competed yesterday at area. The team was 9th overall and we had a Wildcat place 1st overall. They will compete at Texas A&M at the state competition on April 30th.
Girl's Track
Our Junior Varsity Girls track team competed in the District Track Meet at Cy Ranch High School last night. The competition was fierce through out the entire meet and it came down to the last event. We finished 2nd overall by a slim margin of 3 points! The coaches are extremely proud of the way everyone competed all season and especially last night. Varsity girls will compete at the College Park invitational meet on Saturday. Go Wildcats!
Wildlife Team
The Wildlife team competed at the Welder Wildlife Foundation and placed 6th in Area III and 9th in Region III. They will compete at State on April 19th!

Ladies Soccer
Our varsity girls soccer team got Spring Break kicked off right when they smacked the Spartans with seven goals scored by six different Wildcats! This win helped our girls bring home the program's sixth district championship! These Cats begin their playoff run this Thursday at the Berry Center versus a tough Tomball team. Come out and support these Wildcats!! Good Luck Soccer!!
Your Lady Wildcat JV Soccer team started Spring Break off by clinching Undefeated District Championship by beating the Spartans 7 to 0. The Lady Wildcats finished with 89 goals for and only 2 against all season! 212 Soccer!

Cadettes
This Saturday the Cadettes competed in the Crowd Pleasers Texas State Championship. The Cadettes brought home lots of awards.
2 3rd runners up for solos
The Cadette social officers were named the 1st place state champion socials.
The Cadette line officers received 1st place for their open, 3rd place for their lyrical and 3rd place for their contemporary. They were named 3rd place XL Grand Champion Officers and 4th place overall state champion officer line.
The Cadettes received 1st place for their team jazz, novelty and open. They received 2nd place for their pom and lyrical.
In a very close competition, the Cadettes were named 2nd place XL Grand State Champion. Only 1.25 points were between 1st and 2nd.
The Cadettes also received an academic achievement award for having a high team GPA of 3.8.
The Cadettes were named 3rd place overall state champion team which included 4 diamond adjudication awards which is the highest you can receive.
The Cadettes will next head to Grand Nationals in Florida in 2 weeks to complete their competition season.
We are so proud of our third place state champion Cadettes!
Hockey
Our Wildcat hockey team suffered a tough loss Friday to that pesky team from Klein. Our seniors played fantastic! On Sunday our Wildcats took on the San Antonio Jr. Rampage and came away with a 5 to 3 victory. This puts our Wildcats in the #1 seed for playoffs. More info on playoffs to come.
Dual Credit
Wildcats, Dual Credit Registration is open now. If you are interested in taking a college class on our campus next school year, you must complete a PINK registration form and submit it no later than April 29. Visit with Ms. Pickett in the Counseling Office or Mrs. England in the College and Career Center.

CDE Contest
Thursday we had 6 teams compete at the Katy CDE contest and had 3 teams place in the top 10!
Horse Judging placed 2nd overall. With individual placements of 6th and 8th.
Wildlife and Habitat Evaluation placed 7th overall. With individual placement of 14th.
Nursery Landscape placed 10th overall. With individual placement of 18th.
Vet Med had a 3rd overall individual.

Baseball
It was a busy baseball weekend. Both JV and Varsity played in tournaments. Varsity faced some really tough competition. They played 5 games winning 2, losing 1 and tying 2. JV fought hard and won all 5 games!
This week Varsity plays in another tournament here at home, so come support your favorite baseball players this weekend starting Thursday.
JV and Sophomore teams play the ponies here Tuesday night and Bridgeland away on Thursday night.

Lady Soccer
This past Saturday our varsity soccer girls battled strong winds but came away with a five to zero victory over the Cy Park tigers. It was an all senior scoring sheet. These Cats have two regular season games left so come out tomorrow and help to celebrate senior night. We cannot wait to honor these seniors and all they've done for our program. We love you seniors and 212 soccer!!

Black History Month
In Honor of Presidents day let's talk about Barack Hussein Obama. He is an American attorney and politician who served as the 44th president of the United States from 2009 to 2017. He was the first African-American president of the United States. He previously served as a U.S. senator from Illinois from 2005 to 2008 and an Illinois state senator from 1997 to 2004. Obama's election in 2008 signified that our country was moving in the right direction -- a country who once had African slaves had finally elected an African-American to be president.

Today’s American history fact is about Kamala Harris, who is an American politician and attorney. She is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. Kamala Harris was born in Oakland , California and her mother was Tamil Indian and her father is a British Jamaican. She is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president.
Today’s American history fact is Colin Luther Powell was an American politician, statesman, diplomat, and United States Army officer who served as the 65th United States Secretary of State from 2001 to 2005. He was the first African-American secretary of state. Powell was born in New York City to parents who had immigrated from Jamaica. He also participated in ROTC and received a commission as an Army second lieutenant upon graduation in June 1958. He was a professional soldier for 35 years, during which time he held many command and staff positions and rose to the rank of four-star general. He was Commander of the US Army Forces Command in 1989.
Today’s American history fact is Condoleezza Rice is an American diplomat, political scientist, civil servant, and professor who is the current director of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Rice served as the 66th United States secretary of state from 2005 to 2009 and as the 20th national security advisor from 2001 to 2005. A member of the Republican Party, Rice was the first female African-American secretary of state and the first woman to serve as National Security Advisor. Until the election of Barack Obama as president in 2008, Rice and her predecessor, Colin Powell, were the highest-ranking African Americans in the history of the federal executive branch (by virtue of the secretary of state, was standing fourth in the presidential line of succession)

Our Sub Varsity Track teams competed at the Langham Creek meet last night and came away with a clean sweep. All 3 teams were in a 212 zone, scoring major points against some tough opponents. The Varsity Teams will compete at Cy Springs High School in the CFISD Invitational tonight, so come out to watch.

Women's History Month
Throughout our history, despite hardship, exclusion and discrimination, women have strived and sacrificed for equity and equality in communities across the country. Women were stewards of the land and continue to lead the fight for climate justice. They also fought to end slavery, advocate for civil rights and pass the Voting Rights Act. Suffragists helped pass the 19th Amendment to the Constitution so that no American could be denied a vote on the basis of sex. Every March, Women's History Month provides an opportunity to honor the generations of trailblazing women and girls who have built our Nation, shaped our progress and strengthened our character as a people.
Today's work in America is being led by the most diverse and gender-balanced Cabinet in American History, including the first woman and woman of color to serve as Vice President; the first woman ever to serve as Treasury Secretary and Director of National Intelligence; the first Native American woman to serve as a Cabinet Secretary; women are leading the Departments of Commerce, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, along with the Small Business Administration and the Office of Management and Budget. Women of color are representing America on the world stage as United States Ambassador to the United Nations and the United States Trade Representative as well as leading the Council of Economic Advisers in the White House. So Women, please believe that you can, because one day you will!

Black History Month

Darius Carlos Rucker (born May 13, 1966) is an American singer and songwriter. He first gained fame as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of rock band Hootie & the Blowfish. Rucker signed to Capitol Nashville as a country music singer, releasing the album, Learn to Live that year. Its first single, "Don't Think I Don't Think About It", made him the first black artist to reach number one on the Hot Country Songs charts since Charley Pride in 1983. In 2009, he became the first African American to win the New Artist Award from the Country Music Association, and the second African American person to win any award from the association.

The 2022 Mr. Cy Woods pageant is Friday, March 25th.
Applications for Senior Contestants and Escorts can be picked up and turned into the AP office or the Finance office. If you would like to participate in the pageant, please stop by and pick up an application. They are due March 4th with a commitment to the rehearsal dates listed on the form. The Cy Woods UIL Academic Team won the overall school championship at the Magnolia UIL Invitational B meet this past weekend.
There were over 20 schools present.

After dropping their opener, the Boys have gone on a 5-game winning streak. The JV boys have clawed their way into first place halfway through the season.

Horse Judging
On Monday, the horse judging team competed in the San Antonio livestock show and rodeo horse judging contest. Our team placed 3rd overall out of 101 teams from all over Texas. Our 2nd team placed 29th overall. Woods had individuals place 12th and 13th over all.
Hockey
Congratulations to the Wildcat hockey team for their 5-2 defeat over the Fair-Creek team.
The team travels to College Station this Sunday to take on the Thunder!

Black History Month
A big piece of Cy-Fair ISD history is the Carverdale School which was a school for black students from 1925-1970. It was located where Highway 290 meets Beltway 8. The school first opened in 1925 in a one-room farmhouse that was donated by a German dairy farmer. Teachers were known for encouraging students to attend colleges such as Prairie View A&M University and Texas Southern University after graduation. They were also committed to offering a range of extracurricular activities, including student council, National Honor Society, yearbook staff, Spanish Club, Future Homemakers of America, Future Teachers of America, choir, band, cheerleading, drill team, football, basketball, baseball and track. The Carverdale Cobras clinched two consecutive state basketball titles in 1965 and 1966. The school closed in 1970 after the district was court ordered to desegregate in 1967.
Frederick Douglass "Fritz" Pollard and Bobby Marshall were the first two African American players in the NFL in 1920. Fritz Pollard became the first African American head coach in the National Football League. Pollard went to Brown University, majoring in chemistry and he was the first black football player at Brown University. Pollard later became the first black running back to be named to Walter Camp's All-American team.
Marlin Briscoe was the first African American to start as an American Football League quarterback in 1968 while playing for the Denver Broncos. Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes - are the only two African American quarterbacks in the NFL's 100 year history to outright win the MVP award. Cam Newton was the co-MVP with Peyton Manning.
African American coaches have enjoyed major success in the NFL, most notable when Lovie Smith's Chicago Bears met Tony Dungy's Indianapolis Colts in Miami for Super Bowl XLI. It was the first Super Bowl featuring two Black head coaches, Dungy's Colts defeated Smith's Bears, 29-17, behind a dominant defensive performance. Dungy was the first Black coach to win a Super Bowl and Mike Tomlin became the second after his Steelers topped the Arizona Cardinals just a couple years later in Super Bowl XLIII.
Little known black history fact: Admiral Michelle Janine Howard is a retired United States Navy four star admiral. Howard has achieved many historical firsts throughout her naval career. She was the first African American woman to command a U.S. Navy Ship and the first to achieve two and three star rank. On July 1, 2014, Howard became the first woman to become a U.S. Navy four star admiral. As Vice Chief of Naval Operations, which she began that same day, she was the first African American and the first woman to hold that post. Howard also became the first female four star admiral to command operational forces.

Step Team
The Royal Vision Step Team performed at the Stomp Down 2022 Step Show presented by the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. The team placed third overall and qualified for the National competition in May.
Lady Soccer
It may have been too cold for school, but your lady Wildcat varsity soccer team was out battling the cold and the Cy Ranch ponies on Friday. Our cats came out victorious thanks to a rocket goal. Defense did great to shut down Ranches speedy forwards and keep the shut out. Our cats are back in action today at home against Cy Park. Today is our teacher appreciation game and we'd like to invite all teachers to come out for the game - this one is for you!

Black History Month
Imagine a time period where we would not be able to be coached by Mr. Williams. 55 years ago, that would have been the case. In Brown v. Board of Education, the US Supreme Court ruled unanimously that racial segregation in public schools violated the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution. The 1954 decision declared that separate educational facilities for white and African American students were inherently unequal. Cy-Fair ISD did not desegregate until 1967. Since then, CFISD has grown to be one of the most productive and diverse districts in the state.
Ruby Nell Bridges Hall is an American Civil Rights Activist. At the tender age of six, Ruby Bridges advanced the cause of civil rights in November 1960 when she became the first African American student to integrate an elementary school in the South. Bridges and her mother were escorted to school by four federal marshals during the school year that Bridges attended William Frantz Elementary. That first day, Bridges and her mother spent the entire day in the principal's office; the chaos of the school prevented their moving to the classroom until the second day. Because of the support from our government and all of the people who believed in integration, Ruby Bridges and so many others were able to acquire the same education that was available to all American students.
Orchestra
The Cy Woods Orchestra earned 65 Superior ratings and 13 Excellent ratings at last weekend's UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest. Our students brought their best to Cy Lakes High School. Congratulations on a 212 performance, orchestra!

Black History Month
Yesterday began Black History Month and it was created in 1926. Historian Carter G. Woodson announced the second week of February to be "Negro History Week". This week was chosen because it coincided with the birthday of Abraham Lincoln, on February 12 and of Frederick Douglass on February 14, both of which dates, black communities had celebrated together since the late 19th century. It became a month in February 1976. The primary emphasis was placed on encouraging the teaching of the history of African Americans in the nation's public schools.
Lunar New Year
Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year among East and Southeast Asian cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean communities, among others. The New Year celebration is usually celebrated for multiple days - not just one day as in Gregorian calendar's New Year. In 2022, Lunar New Year begins on February 1.
The year 2022 is slated to be the year of the water tiger. The water tiger comes up every 60 years. The water tiger is action-oriented and represents strength, bravery and clearing away evil.

World Read Aloud Day
Today is World Read Aloud Day. For 13 years, World Read Aloud Day has called attention to the importance of sharing stories by challenging participants to grab a book, find an audience and read-aloud! The global effort, created by the non-profit LitWorld and sponsored by Scholastic, is celebrated annually in over 173 countries and is all about bringing people together through the shared connection of reading aloud in all of our communities.

Well done wrestling!
Boys placed 3rd and girls placed 2nd at the Crimson Talon tournament at Katy Tompkins! We had 14 wrestlers place in the top 3 at their respective weight class.
Girls Basketball
The GBB team went over to Bridgeland this past Saturday. The freshman faced the Bears for the 3rd time and battled hard but lost by 1. JV had a tough battle with the Bears and came up short. Varsity was in a dog fight until the end and made some huge free throws down the stretch to WIN the GAME!
Juniors

Lady's Soccer
This past weekend your lady wildcat varsity soccer team faced off against Houston's top teams in the I-10 shootout. Our ladies knocked off the reigning region 2 champs in penalty kicks thanks to HUGE saves by the goalkeeper. On Friday these Cats took down the reigning Katy ISD district champs in a dominant 4-2 performance. In their final match, our girls fell short to top ranked Ridge Point but they are ready to bounce back tonight against Montgomery in their final match before beginning district next week. Blood Drive
The next HOSA blood drive will be held on Friday, January 21st. Students who are 17 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and have a signed parent permission form may sign up to donate blood during all 4 lunches. You can pick up a permission form from any of the HOSA volunteers during your lunch.

Next week from Tuesday, January 18th through Friday, January 21st is our annual 212 Respect Week. We take this time during MLK holiday to demonstrate respect for each other and respect our differences. Our campus is great because our students and staff members are so diverse.
We will show our 212 Respect by doing the following:
- Tuesday - Be the Change we Want to See in the World, so wear black and yellow
- Wednesday - Multicultural Day, dress up to represent an outside country!
- Thursday - Wear Red, White and Blue because we are the United States not the Divided States
- Friday - Walk a Mile in Some Else's Shoes, wear your school spirit shirts and Mix Match Shoes
WHMA
The WMHA will have its January meeting today after school in the teaching theatre. If you are looking for a club to join and want to help raise awareness for mental health, please come to today's meeting. See you there!
Dual Credit
Are you taking Dual Credit classes? Did you know that your payment for classes was due in December?
Please log in to your MyLonestar account now to check your balance and make sure you are enrolled in the correct courses. You will be dropped from your classes for non-payment, so please visit with Mrs. England or Ms. Pickett if you have questions.
Hockey
Congratulations to the Wildcat Hockey team on their 7 to 3 victory over the Woodlands this past Friday.
Come out and support your Wildcats on Sunday, January 30th as they take on the team from Memorial West. Be at the Sugarland Ice rink at 6:40 pm.
AP Exam
AP Exam ordering is OPEN for second semester courses. These include Economics AP, Government AP and Psychology AP.
Don't wait until the last minute. Be 212 and take care of this now. Regular registration ends at 11:59 pm on Monday, February 7th.
Late registration, which includes an additional $10 per exam fee, ends on Friday, February 11th at 12:01 am.
Remember that registration is a two-step process:
1) Register and request a test through College Board
2) Pay through Total Registration
If you are NOT sitting in an AP class, but want to take an exam, you can register for an EXAM ONLY section. You will need to stop by the Counseling office, prior to registering, for the EXAM ONLY option.
Once registration closes, there is no waitlist. Don't miss out on the opportunity to potentially earn some college credit.

Mr Cy Woods
The 2022 Mr. Cy Woods pageant is right around the corner on February 17th.
Applications for Senior Contestants and Escorts can be picked up and turned into the AP Office or the Finance Office starting today. If you would like to participate in the pageant, please stop by and pick up an application. They are due February 4th with a commitment to the rehearsal dates listed on the form. This is a fun and entertaining event. So, don't miss out Senior Men; step up and make some memories and strut your stuff! Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Band
The Saturday Area band Audition was the final round of auditions for our 21 band members who were competitive for All State. Congratulations to the 5 students who became Texas 6A All State Musicians Saturday.
Congratulations to the 2 who earned All State for their second year and the 1 who earned All State for the 3rd year.
These students are now considered in the top 1% of high school musicians in Texas.
Again, this year the Cypress Woods band has almost as many All State musicians as the rest of CFISD combined and had the 2nd highest number of All Staters in the area.
Congratulations to all of the band members who went to the area audition Saturday and everyone who competed in the region process this year. The staff is very proud of your efforts!
Choir
Cypress Woods HS has 3 All State Choir Members!
Saturday auditions were held at the Woodlands High School to select members of the Texas All State choir. This process begins with thousands of students across the state and to be selected you must be in the top 400 singers in the state.
3 Woods students were selected to be in the choir and one was selected as an alternate!
We are so proud of these four students for all of their hard work and dedication to singing and for representing Cy Woods so well!
Ladies Soccer
Over the weekend, your lady Wildcat soccer team faced off against some of the best teams in Houston. After falling short to Klein on Thursday, our Cats bounced back with a huge win over the 2021 region 3 champs, Memorial High School. A true 212 team effort and goals scored were enough to take down the former state champs. Our Cats are back at it Thursday at their next tourney - GOOD LUCK SOCCER!
Your Lady Wildcat JV team played their tails off in the Grand Oaks Cup last weekend and came out of it with 2 wins over a tough Klein and a feisty Memorial. Your Lady Wildcats look to continue their winning ways this weekend at the I-10 Shootout. 212 Soccer!
Softball
Softball tryouts will be January 14th starting at 1:00 pm and January 15th from 9:00 - 2:00 for all girls interested in playing softball. You must pick up a packet from the trainers and have a physical and all paperwork turned in and cleared before tryouts. There is a sign-up sheet on the door of room 3006, 2006 and 2705. POWER of 212
Calling all creative Wildcats! We invite you to enter the POWER of 212 student multimedia competition! Winners can earn some awesome prizes, such as free prom tickets, free lunch from Raising Cane's, discounted items from the spirit store, or free pep rally & sports passes!

Baseball
Baseball try-outs will be held January 21st, 22nd and 24th. You must pick up a tryout form from Coach Pridgeon in room 2008. Forms MUST be completed and turned in by January 19th if you want to participate. There will be a meeting January 6th immediately after school in the baseball field stands.
Water Polo
Hey Wildcats, did you know that UIL is adding a new sport for the first time in 20 years next year? Well you do now, Water Polo is the newest sport to be added to the UIL lineup! There will be introductory practices led by the captains and alumni of the team over winter break. Show up at the Spillane MS pool from 10-11 am Monday, Dec. 20th through Thursday, Dec. 23. We will be able to teach newcomers, so anyone is welcome. We look forward to seeing you there!
Boys Soccer
Your Wildcat Boys soccer started the year strong at Cy Ridge. The Sophomore team hung 3 goals on the Rams and then held on to win 3-2 despite a fierce rally at the end from Ridge.
JV played a determined and very physical game but we weren't messing around. 4-nil for the Wildcats.
Varsity went down 2-0 in the first half but roared back to even it up 2-2 in another scrappy, physical match.
Way to start the season off right, boys!

Girls Basketball
The Girls Basketball team had a home game this week vs. Bridgeland. The freshman team had a tough battle and lost a close game. JV was in a dog fight as well and came out with a huge victory!
The Varsity game was an intense game as both teams were shooting lights out from the 3 pt line. In the end our Varsity girls finished the job and made some huge free throws down the stretch to win the game 48-45.

Tulsa Welding School

Step Team
This weekend members of our Royal Vision step team traveled to Dallas to compete in the World of Step "Who Runs the Yard" competition. They placed 1st in the Co-ed division and had the highest score in the high school division.
Hockey
Congratulations to the Wildcat hockey team on their 6 to 3 victory over the Bearkats.
Come out this Sunday at 7:05 pm at the Aerodrome as they take on Tomball.

Attention Seniors! The Canfield Business Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin is hosting a virtual information session for prospective applicants today at 3 PM. This session is specifically for Cy Woods students and is a great opportunity to learn more about an incredible program. Alcohol can be a very dangerous substance and has been proven to increase suicide, homicide and physical violence as well as reduce your awareness and reflexes.
