Boys Basketball Tryouts

Boys Basketball Tryouts will be held Friday, November 7th beginning at 2:45 and ending at 4:45.  All boys interested in trying out must have an athletic physical on file in the Athletic Trainer's office. If you have any questions, please see Coach Draudt.

Culinary Arts/212 Java Coffee Company will be open Friday, Oct. 31, from 6:45a.m. until supplies last. Come enjoy assorted coffee drinks, smoothies, and treats. Menu's are posted around the building.

Aspire Testing, November 10

Due to ASPIRE Testing on Monday, November 10th, we will be on an alternate bell schedule. Early release times are impacted. For full details, visit the Testing section, which can be found under Counseling, of the school website.

Here's some upcoming colleges that will be here in November...

The University of Kansas upcoming news and deadlines..
The KU scholarship deadline AND applying for the University Honors Program is November 1st.

The Princeton Prize in Race Relations recognizes students who are helping improve race relations in their schools or communities.  The application deadline for this prestigious award is January 31st. 

If you have interest in The University of Virginia, then you must check out The Jefferson Scholars Foundation.  This award is a merit-based, full-funded scholarship to the University of Virginia worth $240,000 for non-residents.

Sam Houston State is having their Elliott Bowers Honors College Open House on November 15th. At this event, students can meet with academic deans, Honors College faculty, and student ambassadors to receive information about student life.

Red Ribbon Week October 27-31

Monday October 27    Every cigarette you smoke reduces your expected life span by 11 minues.
                                     Put a "cap" on drugs.  "Sock" it to 'em. Wear caps and crazy socks.

Tuesday October 28    Teen Tobacco, alcohol and marijuana users are at least twice as likely as
                                      nonusers to have poor grades.  "Tiki Tuesday"  Escape the influence of
                                      drugs, Wear Hawaiian shirts and other tourist attire.

Wednesday October 29  Deaths from medication abuse now outnumber deaths from traffic accidents
                                         for young adults in the U.S.  "Flood out Drugs"  Wear rain gear-raincoat,
                                         rain boots, floaties, etc.

Thursday October 30     Individuals between the ages of 16 and 24 are involved in more than one-
                                         third of all alcohol related traffic accidents.  "Keep your future on the right
                                         path"  Career Day.  Dress up to represent a career choice.
                                      

Friday October 31          Teens that started drinking before the age of 15 are 5 times more likely
                                        to become addicted to alcohol later on, unlike those kids who waited until
                                        after they were 21.  "Be Super - Stay Drug Free"  Dress like a super hero
                                        (also the dress up day established by cheer).

Scholarship Information

Reminder.... we have our Fall College & Career Day this coming up Monday! Over 20 colleges and career schools will be here during all lunches!

For incoming Freshman at The University of Houston... check out the "Frontier Fiesta Association Scholarships." These scholarships will be offered at their 2015 Frontier Fiesta Showcase scheduled for March 2015.  This event is considered the Greatest Show on Earth with more than 23,000 people in attendance!

Seniors, if you're considering UT Dallas, take advantage of The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program. The award provides benefits valued at more than $140,000 over the four-year degree term!

Military Academy Night will be at The Berry Center on November 18th. All middle and high school students are invited to attend!  Representatives will present information and answer your questions on the application process, admission requirements, and  much more.

If you're considering SMU, the Hunt Leadership Scholarship provides full SMU tuition and fees! You must possess extraordinary leadership in high school and rank in the top 25 percent of your graduating class.

Texas Southern University will be hosting its "Fall Tiger Day" on October 24th. Here you can learn all about the campus and the great things TSU has to offer!

Seniors, if you're interested in Boston University, check out the Trustee Scholarship and the Presidential Scholarship. You must have extraordinary academic performance and leadership ability.

The Women's Energy Network is hosting their Young Women Energized program at the University of St Thomas on October 22nd. Admission is FREE and dinner is included. At the event, high school women will learn about the energy sector and how to advance in a fulfilling career.

The Hispanic business Association at the University of Texas at Austin is hosting its annual College 101 event on October 31st. Activities include workshops on resume building, majors in college, and college life in general...all held by student leaders at the UT campus.

For Seniors!...The Jesse H Jones Scholarship is ready for you.  Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement, economic need, leadership, community service, and persistency in overcoming barriers to further education.

For Juniors.. check out Camp Enterprise and their scholarship opportunities. This is an event in April 2015 where Junior level students can join business and community leaders to discuss and explore leadership, business and the Free Enterprise system.

Cypress Woods Wall of Heroes

Cy-Woods AFJROTC has planned various events during the week of 10-14 November 2014. Our largest undertaking is our “Cypress Woods Wall of Heroes.”  The purpose of the Wall of Heroes is to recognize and “honor all who have served” and we need your support.  How can you help?  Submit pictures of your veteran(s), their name, your relationship to the veteran, time in service, and service related information NLT 1 November.  We will display your veteran’s information during the entire week.  We will treat your submission with the utmost respect and dignity! If you have any questions, please contact Major Ewing or SMSgt Rinehart at 281-213-1924. Thank you in advance for allowing us to honor your veteran.

College Night at the Berry Center

Cy Fair ISD is hosting the 20th Annual College Night  tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Berry Center. There is no charge but students will need a ticket to get in. Parents are also welcome to attend.  Ask your English teacher for a ticket if you have not received one already.
