Black History Month

In Honor of Presidents day let's talk about Barack Hussein Obama.  He is an American attorney and politician who served as the 44th president of the United States from 2009 to 2017.  He was the first African-American president of the United States. He previously served as a U.S. senator from Illinois from 2005 to 2008 and an Illinois state senator from 1997 to 2004.  Obama's election in 2008 signified that our country was moving in the right direction -- a country who once had African slaves had finally elected an African-American to be president.

Wednesday 2/23

He was the first African-American secretary of state.  Powell was born in New York City to parents who had immigrated from Jamaica. He also participated in ROTC and received a commission as an Army second lieutenant upon graduation in June 1958. Women's History Month

Throughout our history, despite hardship, exclusion and discrimination, women have strived and sacrificed for equity and equality in communities across the country. Women were stewards of the land and continue to lead the fight for climate justice. They also fought to end slavery, advocate for civil rights and pass the Voting Rights Act. Suffragists helped pass the 19th Amendment to the Constitution so that no American could be denied a vote on the basis of sex. Every March, Women's History Month provides an opportunity to honor the generations of trailblazing women and girls who have built our Nation, shaped our progress and strengthened our character as a people.

Today's work in America is being led by the most diverse and gender-balanced Cabinet in American History, including the first woman and woman of color to serve as Vice President; the first woman ever to serve as Treasury Secretary and Director of National Intelligence; the first Native American woman to serve as a Cabinet Secretary; women are leading the Departments of Commerce, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, along with the Small Business Administration and the Office of Management and Budget. Women of color are representing America on the world stage as United States Ambassador to the United Nations and the United States Trade Representative as well as leading the Council of Economic Advisers in the White House. So Women, please believe that you can, because one day you will!

Hockey

Come out and support your Wildcat Hockey team tonight as we celebrate our seniors.  Your currently ranked 1st place in the North Division Wildcats take on those pesky Bearkats from up the road. Puck drops at 7 pm.

Black History Month

Music is known as the great unifier, and not only are we unified in our lifetime, through music, we are unified across millennia and generations.  One of the most influential musicians in any genre, Michael Jackson’s impact is undeniable – though his later career was dogged by controversy. Jackson started out with his brothers in the Motown act Jackson 5, before going solo and releasing timeless albums such as the R&B-infused Off The Wall and more traditional pop records the likes of Thriller and Bad. Throughout his life, Jackson was always at the forefront of musical trends, and he redefined the music video format with Thriller, which remains one of the best music videos of all time. His discography more than earns him the title of King Of Pop.

Music does not discriminate against culture, religion, gender, sexuality. race or even time and, therefore, not only is it a great unifier it is also a truly universal language. Drake is an artist who has fans of all backgrounds dancing to his music.  He is a Canadian rapper, singer, and actor. He is among the world's best-selling music artists, with over 170 million records sold. Drake is ranked as the highest-certified digital singles artist in the United States. He has won four Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, a record 29 Billboard Music Awards, and holds several Billboard Hot 100 chart records. Drake has the most top 10 singles (54), the most charted songs (258),[17] the most simultaneously charted songs in one week (27), the most Hot 100 debuts in one week (22), and the most continuous time on the Hot 100 (431 weeks).
