College and Career News

Boston University is hosting a reception for juniors and seniors and their families who are interested in learning more about the university. The reception is Sunday, September 24, at the Hilton Houston Post Oak. Visit with Mrs. England in the counseling area if you are interested in more details. 94% of Boston University graduates completed their degree in four years! A representative from Baylor University will be at Cypress Woods during all three lunches on Tuesday, September 26. Be sure to stop by the informational table in the main hallway and learn more about what Baylor has to offer. cypress Woods will host a Fall College Fair on Monday, September 25 during all lunches. Representatives from colleges, universities and branches of the military will have tables set up for you to stop by, take information packets and meet with college admission officers and recruiters. ALL grade levels should embrace this opportunity to learn about your options for Life after the Woods! For current Cypress Woods seniors: You and your family are invited to attend "Applying to College", a presentation covering the college application process. The presentation will take place on Tuesday, September 26 from 6 PM until 7 PM in the auditorium.

Visual Arts Department's 3rd Annual Student Art Auction

The Visual Arts Department will host its 3rd annual Student Art Auction on Friday, May 19th, from 6:30pm-8pm. There will be approximately 500 works of art for sale with minimum bids starting as low as $5! Refreshments will be available for bidders. Bidders must be present at the end of the auction to win. Exemption Card Distribution & Due Dates

Exemption Card Distribution & Due Dates for 9-12th grade, will be Monday & Tuesday, May 15 & 16th, during all lunches. Senior Exemption Cards to be turned in to the AP's office by the end of the school day on Wednesday, May 17. Grades 9-11 Exemption Cards, to be turned in to the AP's office by the end of the school day on Friday May 19th. Teachers will sign these cards on Tuesday, May 16. The only absences that DO NOT count against exemptions are College days for Juniors and Seniors (2-day maximum), and school sponsored field trips.

AP Psychology Exam

Attention all Junior and Seniors taking the AP Psychology EXAM on Monday May 1st. On Monday after third period, ALL testers will report to A Lunch. At the conclusion of A Lunch, you will then report to the main gym where you will be hanging out on the bleachers until 11:30am when you will be led to the testing area. The AP psychology test will conclude between 2:30 and 3:00pm that afternoon. Today after school, Mr. Porter will be holding another practice test session for FALL AP Psychology students to help you better identify what you need to study over the weekend. Good Luck!

Theatre Company's Night for Nationals

Come out and support Cypress Woods Theatre Company in a special fundraising performance of Night for Nationals. The students participating in this event qualified in a theatrical event at Texas Thespian Festival & Competition and will be competing at the National Thespian Festival & Competition this summer in Lincoln, Nebraska. The lobby will have displays of all the technical theatrical designs that students qualified to Nationals with and the performance will consist of all the theatrical performances that students qualified to nationals with plus some extra surprise acts. All money from ticket sales and concessions will go to assist students with transportation costs. Night For Nationals is Saturday, April 22nd in the auditorium with a matinee performance at 2 PM and an evening performance at 7PM. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Cypress Woods Theatre Company Once Act Play Festival

Make plans to attend the Cypress Woods Theatre Company Once Act Play Festival on Tuesday, March 28th! The festival will be presenting the following plays: Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller at 4 PM; Lucy in the Sky by Tony Layton at 5 PM; The Children's Hour by Lillian Hellman at 6 PM; Something Rotten in the State of Denmark by William Shakespeare and Joseph Wallace at 7 PM; our award winning UIL One Act Play Participant, Rhinoceros by Eugene Ionesco at 8 PM. Each show runs 40 minutes and the evening will conclude with an awards ceremony. This is a free event and will take place in the auditorium. See you there!.

The iGoPink scholarship is available to graduating seniors who have an immediate family relative who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is April 1st. Did you know that most of the precious metals in your phones now comes from endangered gorilla and chimpanzee habitat? At Lunch, Wildcat water Warriors are collecting unusable and unwanted hand held electronics and accessories for recycle. Everything collected will be brought to the Houston Zoo in support of their action for Apes initiative. Bring in a phone, Save a Gorilla! Wildcat Water Warriors will take part in a tree planting competition on Saturday, February 11 in Missouri City, Texas. Anyone interested in helping plant trees should see Mr. Kraemer in Room 1214 to sign up.

Souper Bowl of Caring

Hey Wildcats! On Sunday, as estimated 140 million people, will tune in to watch the big game, while 50 million people in the U.S. are hungry. That's over 500 stadiums full of people who need our help. The Souper Bowl of Caring takes the positive energy surrounding the Super Bowl to organize ways people can help their communities. This week, Cy Woods, will be participating by collecting items such as dried beans, boxed cereals, jellies and more to give to CAM, helping families right here in cypress. Help these families by bringing non-perishable items to your favorite class! let's show Houston how much Cy Woods cares! CAM has specifically expressed a need for: boxed cereal, jelly/jam, chili/spaghetti o's/spaghetti sauce, rice, dried beans, canned meat, & toiletry items, especially bar soap, shampoo, toothpaste, tooth brushes, and paper towels. Scholarships •Senior Wildcats, the Cy-Fair Education Foundation Scholarship and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo scholarship applications are due, soon! Please remember that applications are NOT complete until all supporting documents have been turned in to Mrs. Graves. •The Asian Pacific Islander scholarship is available to ANY graduating senior regardless of their ethnicity or cultural background. This organization is offering (21) $2,000 scholarships to qualified applicants. •The Carr P. Collins Scholarship is open to students who will be attending Baylor University in the fall. The application deadline to apply for this $5,000 renewable scholarship is January 31st. •The American Association of Blacks in Engineering will award up to $10,000 in scholarships to minority students who will major in energy related field. The deadline to apply is Feb. 1st. •The Society of Professional Women in Engineering scholarship is open to senior girls who will attend a college or university in Texas. This award is open to ANY major. All senior girls are encouraged to apply.
