Dunks for Dollars

Dunks for Dollars is raising money for Sea Turtle Inc., a nonprofit turtle rescue and rehab center. To enter the dunk competition, you can pay $1 at lunch, December 13th, and compete with your friends!

Crimson Cadettes Dance Tryouts

If you are interested in trying out to be a member of the Crimson Cadettes dance team for the 2018-2019 school year, tryout packets are now available in the dance room, room 1990. Veteran's Week

Tuesday- United States Marines- The Marine veterans we honor today came from all walks of life, but they shared several fundamental qualities. They possessed courage, pride, determination, selflessness, dedication to duty, and integrity-but above all, they were always faithful. Semper Fidelis. Their service and loyalty to this nation is a testament of the blood they shed to endure the freedoms that we enjoy on a day to day basis. Thank you.

Wednesday-  United States Navy- Michel De Montaigne once said, "Valor is stability, not of legs and arms, but of courage and the soul." Valor is something a veteran will always keep with them.  Whether they served in times of peace, or in strife and war. Yet navy veterans don't risk their life for themselves. A notorious motto they carry is Non Sibi Sed Patriae." Meaning "not for self but for country." Their bravery matched with valor is not for the glory for themselves, but for the prosperity of our country and the ideas it stands by.  Thank you.

Veteran's Week

UNITED STATES ARMY-Today marks the start of veterans week. Each day, cadets of the AFJROTC will recognize each branch of the United States military beginning with the oldest,  the United States Army. For all Army veterans, regardless of their service and the era in which they have served,, they have paid the price time and time again. They have defended America through both the best and worst of times,and they have performed their duties tirelessly, with little recognition or fanfare. Thank you!

Ethel Hedgeman Lyle Foundation of Texas offers scholarship money to qualified African-American seniors (male or female).

The Burger King Scholars award of up to 50 thousand dollars is available to Burger King employees or their dependent children.

Seniors must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale

Must be active in the community through volunteering, sports, clubs and/or religious organizations

Theatre Announcements

Want a way to give back to your community this up coming holiday season? Trick or Treat so kids can eat is an easy way to do just that! There are boxes in your English class rooms with flyers indicating what kind of foods are needed. Place the food in those boxes or drop it off at the auditorium by October 30th to give to Cypress Assistance ministries for children and families in need.

Come and see Cy Woods theatre department's production of Antigone on November 3, 4, and 6th at 6:30pm! The show  will take place behind the school, outside in the courtyard with parking by the tennis courts. Tickets are $10.

Buddy Holly is back!  For only 2 special performances on November 10th and 11th at 7 pm!  If you didn't get a chance to see Buddy and the Crickets last time around, or if you wanna rock and roll with us again, you don't wanna miss this! Tickets are $10 at the door.

HOSA Blood Drive

ASPIRE Test, October 31/Bell Schedule Change

Attention 10th Grade Students: On October 31st, any student who is classified as a 10th grader will participate in ASPIRE testing from periods 1-7. ASPIRE is part of the ACT testing program and is being given free of charge at Cy Woods. Visit the Cy Woods website for information regarding snacks and calculators for the ASPIRE test.

Seniors: Due to testing on October 31st, the bell schedule has been changed. Early release times are impacted.

HOSA Blood Drive

The HOSA blood drive will be held on Monday, November 6th.  If you are 17 or older,  you are eligible to sign up to donate blood. If you are interested in donating blood on November 6th, please see the HOSA volunteers during all lunches for a permission slip. Signed permission slips are due no later than Friday, November 3rd.

ASPIRE Testing on October 31st

Buddy Holly Is Back!

Antigone

Come and see Cy-Woods theatre department's production of Antigone on November 3, 4, and 6th, at 6:30pm! The show will take place behind the school, outside, in the courtyard with parking by the tennis courts. Tickets are $10.  You can purchase at the door or online.

Trick or Treat so Kids can Eat

Want a way to give back to your community this up coming holiday season?  Trick or treat so kids can eat is an easy way to do just that! There are boxes in your English classrooms with flyers indicating what kind of foods we need. Place the food in those boxes or drop it off at the auditorium by October 30th to give to Cypress Assistance ministries for children and families in need.

CFISD is hosting Career Options Fair tomorrow night from 5:30 – 7:30 at the Berry Center.   This event will showcase career and technical schools offering degrees and certifications that will prepare you for the workforce.  All grades are welcome.     

Northwestern University will be visiting Cy Woods on Friday.  Northwestern, a private university, has about 8,000 students and is located just north of Chicago, Illinois. 

Senior ladies who have been involved in community service and have given back to the community are eligible for a $1,000.00 scholarship from the Cypress-Woodlands Junior Forum.  Applications are in the College and Career Office located inside the counselors’ office. 

Senior students intending to earn a degree in performing arts are eligible to apply for a $1,000.00 scholarship.  Applications and more details can be found in the College and Career Office.

UIL Math Team

The Cypress-Woods Junior Forum is offering Cypress Woods Seniors two scholarship opportunities. One scholarship is for graduating senior women. The $1,000.00 scholarship is given to a senior young woman who has made an effort during her high school career to volunteer her time and talents
to the community. The second scholarship is for a graduating senior (male or female) who intends to pursue a college degree in one of the performing arts.

UT Dallas is offering a Scholar's Day Event on November 11 for African-American students in 11th and 12th grade who are in the top 10% of their class. See Mrs. England in the counseling office for more information. The deadline to register is October 31.

Visual Arts Department's 3rd Annual Student Art Auction

The Visual Arts Department will host its 3rd annual Student Art Auction on Friday, May 19th, from 6:30pm-8pm. There will be approximately 500 works of art for sale with minimum bids starting as low as $5! Refreshments will be available for bidders. Bidders must be present at the end of the auction to win. Exemption Card Distribution & Due Dates

Exemption Card Distribution & Due Dates for 9-12th grade, will be Monday & Tuesday, May 15 & 16th, during all lunches. Senior Exemption Cards to be turned in to the AP's office by the end of the school day on Wednesday, May 17. Grades 9-11 Exemption Cards, to be turned in to the AP's office by the end of the school day on Friday May 19th. Teachers will sign these cards on Tuesday, May 16. The only absences that DO NOT count against exemptions are College days for Juniors and Seniors (2-day maximum), and school sponsored field trips.

Visual Arts Department presents, Student Art Auction

The Visual Arts Department will host its 3rd annual Student Art Auction on Friday, May 19t, from 6:30pm-8:pm. There will be approximately 500 works of art for sale with minimum bids starting as low as $5! Refreshments will be available for bidders. Bidders must be present at the end of the auction to win. It will be a cash only event. Come check out and buy some amazing student art to help promote our Wildcat Artists!

AP Psychology Exam

Attention all Junior and Seniors taking the AP Psychology EXAM on Monday May 1st. On Monday after third period, ALL testers will report to A Lunch. At the conclusion of A Lunch, you will then report to the main gym where you will be hanging out on the bleachers until 11:30am when you will be led to the testing area. The AP psychology test will conclude between 2:30 and 3:00pm that afternoon. Today after school, Mr. Porter will be holding another practice test session for FALL AP Psychology students to help you better identify what you need to study over the weekend. Good Luck!

Theatre Company's Night for Nationals

Come out and support Cypress Woods Theatre Company in a special fundraising performance of Night for Nationals. The students participating in this event qualified in a theatrical event at Texas Thespian Festival & Competition and will be competing at the National Thespian Festival & Competition this summer in Lincoln, Nebraska. The lobby will have displays of all the technical theatrical designs that students qualified to Nationals with and the performance will consist of all the theatrical performances that students qualified to nationals with plus some extra surprise acts. All money from ticket sales and concessions will go to assist students with transportation costs. Night For Nationals is Saturday, April 22nd in the auditorium with a matinee performance at 2 PM and an evening performance at 7PM. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Cypress Woods Theatre Company Once Act Play Festival

Make plans to attend the Cypress Woods Theatre Company Once Act Play Festival on Tuesday, March 28th! The festival will be presenting the following plays: Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller at 4 PM; Lucy in the Sky by Tony Layton at 5 PM; The Children's Hour by Lillian Hellman at 6 PM; Something Rotten in the State of Denmark by William Shakespeare and Joseph Wallace at 7 PM; our award winning UIL One Act Play Participant, Rhinoceros by Eugene Ionesco at 8 PM. Wildcat Water Warriors News

Did you know that most of the precious metals in your phones now comes from endangered gorilla and chimpanzee habitat? At Lunch, Wildcat water Warriors are collecting unusable and unwanted hand held electronics and accessories for recycle. Everything collected will be brought to the Houston Zoo in support of their action for Apes initiative. Bring in a phone, Save a Gorilla! Wildcat Water Warriors will take part in a tree planting competition on Saturday, February 11 in Missouri City, Texas. Anyone interested in helping plant trees should see Mr. Kraemer in Room 1214 to sign up.

Souper Bowl of Caring

Hey Wildcats! On Sunday, as estimated 140 million people, will tune in to watch the big game, while 50 million people in the U.S. are hungry. That's over 500 stadiums full of people who need our help. The Souper Bowl of Caring takes the positive energy surrounding the Super Bowl to organize ways people can help their communities. This week, Cy Woods, will be participating by collecting items such as dried beans, boxed cereals, jellies and more to give to CAM, helping families right here in cypress. Help these families by bringing non-perishable items to your favorite class! let's show Houston how much Cy Woods cares! CAM has specifically expressed a need for: boxed cereal, jelly/jam, chili/spaghetti o's/spaghetti sauce, rice, dried beans, canned meat, & toiletry items, especially bar soap, shampoo, toothpaste, tooth brushes, and paper towels. Scholarships •Senior Wildcats, the Cy-Fair Education Foundation Scholarship and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo scholarship applications are due, soon! Please remember that applications are NOT complete until all supporting documents have been turned in to Mrs. Graves. •The Asian Pacific Islander scholarship is available to ANY graduating senior regardless of their ethnicity or cultural background. This organization is offering (21) $2,000 scholarships to qualified applicants. •The Carr P. Collins Scholarship is open to students who will be attending Baylor University in the fall. The application deadline to apply for this $5,000 renewable scholarship is January 31st. •The American Association of Blacks in Engineering will award up to $10,000 in scholarships to minority students who will major in energy related field. The deadline to apply is Feb. 1st. •The Society of Professional Women in Engineering scholarship is open to senior girls who will attend a college or university in Texas. This award is open to ANY major. All senior girls are encouraged to apply.
